100 Points, Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Few and Far Between is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Medium garnet in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of dried cherries, boysenberry preserves, blackcurrant pastilles and charcuterie with hints of chocolate mint, rose oil and licorice, plus a waft of cardamom. The rich, full-bodied palate is tightly knit and youthful, delivering great tension among the layers upon layers of minerals, black fruits and floral notes, finishing very long and incredibly perfumed. Gorgeous.", Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 12/1/21

100 Points, JebDunnuck.com"Probably my favorite in the entire lineup, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Few and Far Between comes from a tiny site just outside of Calistoga formerly known as the Pickett Road Vineyard. Where the 2015 includes a touch of Cabernet Franc, the 2016 is all Cabernet Sauvignon that spent the usual 32 months in 100% new French oak. This full-bodied, majestic Napa Valley Cabernet reveals a dense purple hue, awesome crème de cassis and kirsch fruit, amazing complexity in its spicy, sandalwood, and floral aromatics, and a massive yet elegant, lengthy personality. The texture is through the roof, it’s as seamless and polished as they come, perfectly balanced, and while I’d happily drink bottles today, my money is on this evolving for 3-4 decades.", Jeb Dunnuck, 6/2/20

WINEMAKER NOTES:

All Hundred Acre wines are made by a very exacting standard in the vineyard. Pruning to one cluster [per shoot], harvesting in multiple passes [five or more], sorting the fruit berry by berry, fermenting in small, French oak fermenters, and long aging in the finest barriques. The secret to Hundred Acre is no compromise and no detail overlooked, ever. The Few and Far Between vineyard, Hundred Acre's smallest production and smallest vineyard, is truly a staggeringly beautiful place in the world—many have said it's magical. It's also home to Jayson and Helen Woodbridge.

VINEYARD NOTES:

Few and Far Between is one of three estate vineyards, all of which are farmed organically although they are not certified. The 5-acre Few and Far Between is tucked deep in a small valley in Calistoga. Just down a gentle slope is historic Eisele Vineyard, best known as the source of Araujo Estate's Cabernet Sauvignon and considered hallowed ground by many. This vineyard and her wines have garnered incredible praise from the world-famous wine writer, Mr. Robert Parker Jr. The pristine site, planted in rocky alluvial soils, is 90 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc.

VINTAGE NOTES:

The 2016 vintage was the beginning of the end of the drought in Napa Valley. The vines were finally given a break with close to normal amount of rain in the winter preceding the vintage. 2016 was cooler overall than 2014 & 2015, it was warm and dry, but without the massive spikes in temperature that challenged the previous two years. 2016 was the kind of year where even a blind squirrel can find a nut, so most wineries could coast along and make good wine. We don’t coast, so 2016 was an epic vintage for us, one for the ages.

COOPERAGE:

Aged for 24-30 months in the finest French oak barrique. The stave wood is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.
